Gender Affirming Voice Training & Communication (GAVCT)

Gender Affirming Voice Training & Communication (GAVCT)

Gender Affirming Voice and Communication Training (GAVCT) is a specialised therapeutic service designed to help individuals align their voice, speech, and communication style with their gender identity.

Through personalised support, clients can explore and develop aspects of vocal pitch, resonance, intonation, speech patterns, and non-verbal communication in a safe, affirming environment.

The goal is not to change who someone is, but to empower them to communicate in a way that feels authentic, confident, and congruent with their identity.

Gender Affirming Voice and Communication Training (GAVCT) can be an important part of gender affirmation, supporting wellbeing, self-expression, and confidence in everyday interactions, and

can support a wide range of voice, speech, and communication goals, depending on each person’s needs and preferences.

Some of the areas this service can help with include:

  • Voice Pitch – exploring and adjusting vocal pitch to better align with gender identity, where desired.
  • Resonance – modifying how the voice sounds (e.g. brighter, lighter, fuller, or deeper) to create a more congruent vocal quality.
  • Intonation and Melody – working on the natural rhythm, variation, and expressiveness of speech.
  • Speech Patterns and Language Use – exploring communication styles, including word choice, pacing, and conversational habits.
  • Non-Verbal Communication – developing confidence with body language, facial expressions, gestures, and overall communication presence.
  • Vocal Health and Safety – learning techniques to use the voice sustainably and reduce strain or fatigue.
  • Confidence in Social and Professional Settings – practising communication for everyday conversations, phone calls, workplace interactions, and public situations.
  • Reducing Voice-Related Dysphoria – supporting individuals to feel more comfortable and affirmed in how they sound and express themselves.
  • Authentic Self-Expression – helping clients find a voice and communication style that feels natural, empowering, and true to who they are.

This service is highly individualised and collaborative, recognising that there is no single “right” way to sound—only what feels right for each person.
