A Guide to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

Our amazing psychologists provide a range of therapies and utilise a number of strategies, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.

What is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy?

Cognitive behaviour therapy is often referred to and abbreviated to CBT. It is a form of therapy that focuses on helping clients change their negative behaviour and thought patterns. It is primarily achieved through “talk therapy”.

Who can benefit from CBT?

CBT can and has been used to treat a variety of mental health conditions such as anxiety disorders and depression, among many more mental health conditions.

How does it work?

CBT is based on the concept that one’s thoughts, feelings and behaviours all work in interconnected ways.

When one is able to identify negative thought patterns and then develop effective strategies to change them, it is easier to manage emotions and behaviours.

CBT is used by therapists to help clients develop the skills and understanding necessary to identify and react to these thought patterns and the behaviour that (in the past) has been likely to follow.

Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy (talking therapy) based on the idea that how you think and act affects how you feel.

(3) Increase Self-confidence

Through CBT, clients are able to regain or rebuild their self-confidence. In turn, those with more self-confidence are better enabled to benefit from the other advantages of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.

Getting Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

When you attend a CBT you’ll work with a trained and professional psychologist. During your session, you’ll talk through how to identify negative thought patterns. Then work on the requisite strategies to deal with and change them.

Sessions are typically around 45/50 minutes in length.

The CBT therapists at One Central Health are specialists in this form of therapy. They have gone through extensive mentorship to ensure they’re best able to assist clients with their negative thoughts and behaviours.

It is important to realise that CBT is an important and helpful form of therapy but is not necessarily the best or right answer for everyone and every condition.
