How to Claim As a Self-Managed NDIS Participant

Being a self-managed NDIS participant comes with its benefits and challenges. Self-managed participants enjoy greater control and involvement with how they use their funds but without the proper level of organisation and administrative capability, it can be overwhelming and confusing.

Paying Invoices as a Self-Managed NDIS Participant

When a self-managed NDIS participant receives an invoice from a provider for services given, they have two ways of going about payment. Whichever method one chooses, it should be made clear to and in accordance with the provider according to their Service Agreement.

  1. Settle the Invoice then Claim

The first option for participants is to settle the invoice themselves. This will require enough money to pay the outstanding amount to begin with.

The participant can then lodge the invoice/payment with the NDIS through the MyPlace portal and receive the reimbursement funds into their chosen bank account within 24 to 48 hours.

2. Lodge the Fund Request then Pay

The second option available to NDIS self-managed participants is to first request for the money from one’s plan budget. Again, the funds will be available within 48 hours at the most.

It can then be used to pay the invoice amount.

Getting Help with Your Self-Managed Plan

The MyPlace portal might become easier to use the more your familiarise yourself with its settings and layout, but it can still prove tricky for some people. Luckily, if you’re self-managed, there are a lot of free, online resources to help you out.

You can use these forms to claim for reimbursements from a previous outdated Plan as well. All you need to do is fill it our, sign the bottom and send it to the address included in the form itself.
